STCW Basic Safety Training Course

Our STCW Basic Safety Training is an internationally recognized course designed to meet the mandatory safety standards for all seafarers. This essential program includes five core modules:

  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)

  • Security Awareness

  • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

  • Personal Survival Techniques (PST)

  • Elementary First Aid

Each module provides the practical skills and safety knowledge required to work confidently and responsibly at sea. Through hands-on exercises, real-life simulations, and continuous assessment, participants develop the competence to handle onboard emergencies and promote a strong safety culture.

Upon successful completion, candidates receive the STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate, compliant with IMO and MCA standards, enabling them to begin or advance their maritime career.

At the end of the course, a formal 30-minute assessment is conducted. This includes a combination of multiple-choice questions and short written responses, verifying that all key learning outcomes and competencies have been achieved.

Course Approval

Approved under STCW A-VI/6-1, this course meets the IMO requirements for Security Awareness Training, ensuring full compliance for all seafarers without designated security duties.

Participants must be at least 16 years of age and capable of completing both theoretical and practical components of the course.

The course develops awareness of potential security threats, procedures to minimize risk, and the importance of maintaining vigilance at sea and in port.

  • Understand the need for effective security measures and cooperation

Participants are continuously assessed through:

  • Candidates must be physically fit and capable of completing all aspects of the training, including physically demanding fire-fighting drills.

  • Attendance: 100% attendance is mandatory


What to Bring

Please bring the following items and comply with all safety requirements:

  • Valid ID: Passport, national ID card, or seaman’s discharge book (to be presented upon arrival).

  • Clothing:

    • Two pairs of thick long socks to wear under fire boots

    • T-shirt and long trousers or leggings made from natural fibres (no jeans or seamed trousers)

  • Personal appearance:

    • No jewellery, watches, piercings, or valuables (metal can heat during training)

    • Beards/stubble must be closely trimmed to allow a full face seal on breathing apparatus

    • No make-up, lotions, or sun cream (they damage breathing apparatus seals)

  • Hydration and meals: Bring 2 litres of water and a packed lunch for each day.

This course provides all seafarers with the essential education and practical training in fire prevention and firefighting, as required under STCW Regulation A-VI/1-2.
Participants will learn how to:

  • Minimise the risk of fire on board

  • Maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergencies involving fire

  • Effectively fight and extinguish fires using the correct procedures and equipment

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and minimise fire risks on board

  • Identify onboard fire prevention systems, procedures, and safety requirements

  • Demonstrate the ability to control and extinguish onboard fires safely and efficiently

Course Aim & Objectives

This course provides all seafarers with the knowledge, understanding, and proficiency necessary to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency at sea.

Participants will gain practical experience in the recognition, management, and treatment of common shipboard injuries and illnesses.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize types of accidents and emergencies requiring first aid on board

  • Raise the alarm appropriately depending on the type and severity of the emergency

  • Take immediate and appropriate measures when accidents or medical emergencies occur

  • Prioritize actions when administering first aid

  • Minimize risk to self and casualty during emergency response

  • Understand basic body structure and functions related to first aid

  • Identify and correctly use emergency first aid equipment, including improvisation of bandages

  • Maintain airway, breathing, and circulation in a casualty requiring resuscitation

  • Recognize and manage shock, bleeding, burns, scalds, and electrical injuries

  • Correctly position casualties according to injury type

  • Apply safe casualty rescue and transportation techniques
